A 40-year-old Decatur man suspect in an armed robbery in Decatur led police on a high-speed chase through Limestone County late Monday night.

Michael Gregory Marshall, of 2659 Kirby Bridge Road, was in the Limestone County Jail Tuesday charged with driving under the influence, attempting to elude police, reckless endangerment and a number of traffic citations. In addition, Decatur police are expected to charge him with robbery.

Limestone County Chief Deputy Randy King said police used spikes three different times to puncture the suspect’s tires in order to stop him.

“Decatur put out a “BOLO” to be on the lookout for the suspect in the armed robbery there,” King said. “They said he had an ex-wife who lives at Piney Chapel, and they thought he might be headed here and that he would be driving a Suburban,” King said. “We had an officer spot that vehicle at Piney Chapel and Elkton Road, but the driver failed to stop.”

King said Limestone County deputies, Athens police officers and state troopers chased the suspect to Alabama 127, Sewell Road, Brownsferry Road, McCormack Lane, Huntsville-Brownsferry Road and across U.S. 31 to Lindsey Lane, where he stopped.

“We got one tire with the spikes at Lucas Ferry and Brownsferry roads,” King said. “Then we had to spike it again at U.S. 31 and Huntsville-Brownsferry and a third time at Lindsey Road and Huntsville-Brownsferry. He made the comment when we got him in custody that he had nothing personnel against the police, it was just the drugs.”

Investigators said Marshall is a suspect in a robbery earlier in the night in Decatur.

“They told us that he robbed someone in Decatur at knife point and they were looking for him,” King said. “One of our deputies just happened to spot him at about 12:30 a.m.”

King said no one was hurt in the chase.

“He really did not run all that fast during the chase,” the chief deputy said. “He never did get over 85 mph.”
