NORTH COURTLAND – Derrick Green rushed for 162 yards and scored two touchdowns Friday night to lead unbeaten Ardmore to a 35-7 win over East Lawrence on the road.
The Tigers raced out to a 21-0 halftime lead and never looked back. But Coach Tracy Malone wasn’t all that happy with the effort although he said it was good to get the first area win.
“We played a little sloppy. We had too many penalties and too many fumbles. But it was good to get our first area win.”
Ardmore was penalized eight times for 65 yards and fumbled the ball thee times including the opening 76-yard drive that was killed by a fumble on the one that was recovered in the end zone.
The Tigers scored first on a 35-yard pass play from Clay Wales to Duron Robison. Landon Curtis kicked the PAT to remain perfect on the season.
In the second, Green scored two touchdowns, one on a 20 yard run and the other on a four yard run with 56 seconds left in the half. Curtis kicked both PATs.
In the fourth quarter, Ardmore scored again with 11:51 left on a 32 yard run by Curtis who finished the night with 81 yards rushing.
East Lawrence answered with a 20 yard TD pass from Greg Sparks to Roy Young. Ray Watkins kicked the PAT.
Ardmore’s final touchdown of the night came with 4:58 left on a seven yard run by Green. Curtis kicked the PAT.
Green had 247 all purpose yards in the win.
“The line was knocking the holes and it made it easy for us to run and gain yardage,” he said. “I give the credit to the line.”
Curtis also praised the offensive line giving credit to them for much of his yardage.
Ardmore will be back at home next week against another Class 4A, Region 7 foe. The North Jackson Chiefs will be in Ardmore Friday night.
