Sheriff in need of jailers

Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely is looking to hire four new county jailers, effective immediately.
Blakely said three jailers left for higher paying jobs and another resigned for personal reasons recently. At full force, the county has 40 fulltime jailers to man the new facility on East Hobbs Street.
“We try to have eight to nine people working the jail each shift,” the sheriff said Wednesday. “Security is very important and since we’ve lost four people all at one time we are looking to hire more people immediately.”
The sheriff just recently hired two new deputies to replace deputies Randy Burroughs and Roy Brooks who left for a tour to Iraq. Now, he said the jailer positions have come open.
A new jailer will start out in pay at approximately $11 per hour with good benefits and job security, the sheriff said.
“If we have someone who is interested in becoming a jailer for the county we are asking they call me, Lt. Vanessa Rich or Chief Deputy Randy King. Of course applicants can’t have a criminal record and must have good character to qualify.”
