Alabama Public Service Commission Place 2 candidate Susan Parker brought her campaign to Athens Wednesday while on a tour of Alabama in her red pickup truck which she called “The People’s Express.”
“I am running to be the people’s advocate on the PSC,” Parker said. “I will work every day to see that consumers get the lowest possible rates on their power bill, phone bill or natural gas bill.”
Parker, who served from 1998-2002 as state auditor, worked 25 years in higher education retiring from Athens State University as assistant to the president for external affairs.
Parker’s People’s Express Tour started Wednesday at her home in Rogersville and she visited Athens, Decatur and Hartselle where she and her husband lived for many years. Her tour ended Wednesday in her hometown of Eva in southern Morgan County. She will be in Huntsville today.
Parker said her her tour of the state will allow her to take her message of standing up for the consumer directly to the people.
Place 2 is now held by George Wallace Jr. who did not seek re-election. Wallace ran for lieutenant governor instead.
Parker is being opposed by Republican candidate Perry Hooper.
