Officers plan checkpoints during Labor Day holiday

As a few motorists reading this today might have already found out, all three law enforcement agencies serving Limestone County are making check-point traffic stops.

Floyd Johnson of Athens Police, Chief Deputy Randy King of the Sheriff’s Department and a state trooper spokeswoman all confirmed Friday that Labor Day weekend checkpoints were to be set up beginning Friday night.

Police, deputies and troopers say the checkpoints will be randomly situated and officers will be checking for those driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and will also be checking licenses.

The agencies say they will have extra patrol cars on the roads throughout Monday because it is one of the most heavily traveled holidays of the year.
