A Decatur man headed home from making a business call on an Elkmont industry was killed Friday afternoon when his motorcycle struck a pickup truck on Alabama 127.
Dead is Larry Neal Almon, 59, of 2111 Benwick Place S.W., Decatur, according to Limestone County Coroner Mike West.
An Athens Police spokeswoman said that Almon was headed south on Alabama 127 riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle at about 1:29 p.m. when a northbound Ford pickup driven by Anthony Collins, 47, of Athens, made a left turn onto McClung Lane in front of Almon.
Lengthy skid marks showed Almon attempted to avoid the collision, but struck the right rear tire area of the pickup.
The victim was flung from the bike and landed on the roadway about 15 feet from the point of impact.
West said that Almon, an industrial machine parts salesman, died instantly of head and chest injuries.
A native of Moulton and a former resident of Limestone County, Almon leaves two children, Adam and Amy.
