Lt. Gov. Lucy Baxley will be in Athens next weekend for the opening of the new Limestone County Democratic Party Headquarters.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the party headquarters at 209 West Washington Street, on the south side of the Limestone County Courthouse Square.

“A lot of people these days tend to vote for the person who has the best commercial on television,” said Limestone County Democratic Chairman Pam Wallace. “This is their chance to meet the real person who may be their next governor, face to face, up close and personal.”

Prior to the grand opening, the members of the Democratic committee invite everyone to come to the headquarters for ice cream sundaes.

Wallace added that it will be a fun afternoon, a chance to visit the headquarters, meet some candidates and enjoy some free ice cream.
