ATHENS – Athens Bible bounced back from its tournament loss to Elkmont Saturday by sweeping Tanner at home in three sets Monday afternoon.
The Trojans won 25-4, 25-12 and 25-17.
So far, Athens Bible (6-1) has lived up to its No. 5 ranking in Class 1A.
“We’ve played pretty good so far,” Athens Bible coach April Davis said. “Everyone is playing well.”
Davis said the main reason the Trojans have been so successful is because they play well as a unit.
“This group of girls are very close,” she said. “Just about all of them play other sports together and they spend almost all year playing sports together.
“It’s important that everyone gets along, so we’re fortunate to have a group of girls who are this close.”
Leading Athens Bible in the win was Abbie Melvin with five kills and seven aces.
Kirsten McClure added seven assists while Christina Ivey had four kills and Katie Eubanks had four assists.
Athens Bible will travel to Elkmont(6-1) Thursday for a rematch with the only team to beat the Trojans.
“There are a lot of good volleyball teams in the county,” Davis said.
“Elkmont has a very good team with very good players.”
