Prep football:

Elkmont 12, Falkville 0

Before school started back, Elkmont coach Chad McGehee said he was going to need several young players to play important roles this season.

The Red Devils’ youngsters showed everyone they’re up to the challenge Thursday night at Falkville when Elkmont’s B-team struck twice in the second half for a 12-0 win in a jamboree.

Both teams’ varsity units played the first two quarters in what turned out to be a defensive struggle.

Neither team was able to muster any offense until Joshua McWilliams scored on a 10-yard touchdown run with 3:40 seconds remaining in the third quarter to give Elkmont a 6-0 lead.

McWilliams struck again with a 10-yard touchdown run late in the fourth quarter.

Red Devils quarterback Jonathan Carter competed 4-of-8 passes with the varsity offense.

Elkmont opens its season Friday at Ardmore.

Madison Academy 7, Clements 0

Last season, not many teams were able to find the endzone against Madison Academy’s defense, with the unit recording six regular season shutouts.

The Mustangs showed the same type of defensive dominance Thursday night at Clements by shutting out the Colts 7-0 in a jamboree.

Clements opens its regular season Thursday night at home against cross-county rival Tanner.

Madison Academy hosts Brooks for its season opener Friday night.
