William Herbert Beutjer
The funeral for William Herbert Beutjer, 75, of 17582 Lakeside Estates Road, Athens, will be at 11 a.m. today at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home in Athens with the Rev. Beth Thomason officiating. Burial will be in Elkview Cemetery.
Mr. Beutjer died Friday, Aug. 18, 2006, at Huntsville Hospital.
He was a Korean War veteran, NASA manager of HOSC, 25-year basketball official and baseball umpire. He retired from NASA in 1992 to enjoy his home on the Elk River. His hobbies included fishing, golfing, snow skiing, playing the drums, photography and, most of all, enjoying the title of Mr. Fix It. He will always be a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert William Beutjer and Ruth Esther Nachtigal, and a brother, Harold Beutjer.
He is survived by his wife, Irene Beutjer; five sons, Michael Beutjer and wife Stephanie of Huntsville, Mark Beutjer and wife Janet of Athens, Brad Beutjer and wife Leanna of Atlanta, Tim Beutjer and wife Annette of Calera, and Tommy Beutjer of Athens; one daughter, Christy Fawley and husband Mark of Peachtree City, Ga.; two sisters, Lynn Altergott and husband Ron of Athens, and Jo Ann McLellan and husband Bill of Wheaton, Ill.; grandchildren, Leah Beutjer of Athens, Scott Beutjer of Carrollton, Ga., Katie Beutjer of Birmingham, Patrick Beutjer of Calera, Will Beutjer of Muscle Shoals, Erin Beutjer of Troy, Allison Banta and husband Matt of Auburn, Casey Beutjer of Calera, Laney Beutjer of Huntsville, Jessica Fawley of Peachtree City, Ga., Ben Beutjer of Athens, Cameron Beutjer of Calera, David Beutjer of Huntsville, Becca Fawley of Peachtree City, Ga., Stacy Beutjer of Atlanta, Molly Beutjer of Atlanta, Abby Beutjer of Atlanta, Matthew Beutjer of Huntsville, and Braly Beutjer of Huntsville; and one great-grandchild, Kyndall Beutjer of Athens; one sister-in-law Denny Beutjer of Wheaton, Ill., and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Patrick Beutjer, Scott Beutjer, David Beutjer, Cameron Beutjer, Ben Beutjer and Will Beutjer.
Honorary pallbearers will be Leah Beutjer, Katie Beutjer, Erin Beutjer, Allison Beutjer, Casey Beutjer, Laney Beutjer, Jessica Fawley, Becca Fawley, Stacey Beutjer, Abby Beutjer and Molly Beutjer.
Wayne Franklin
The funeral for Wayne Franklin, 71, of Ardmore, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ardmore Memorial Funeral Home with Dr. Ray Stonecypher and the Reverend Lynn Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Gatlin Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6-9 tonight at the funeral home.
Mr. Franklin died Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, at Huntsville Hospital.
He was born Oct. 8, 1934, in Lincoln County, Tenn., to Nathan Thomas Franklin and Lucy Virginia Ferguson Franklin. He lived in this area all of his life. He was a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church. He loved sports, especially Tennessee Vols sports, spending time with grandchildren and catfish and baked potatoes. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Shirley Franklin.
He is survived by two daughters, Paula Raby and husband Tommy of Toney and Janet Barron and husband Mac of Ardmore; one sister, Gilda Hall and husband Bill of Fayetteville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Megan, Cody and Chase Barron and Ben and Kayla Raby and nieces and nephews.
Mildred Bevel Martin
Mildred Bevel Martin, 84, of Athens, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2006, at her residence. Arrangements will be announced by Spry Funeral Home.
