Lois P. Appleton

Funeral for Lois P. Appleton, 57, of 19889 Alabama 127, Athens, will be at 2 p.m. today at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Donald Clem officiating. Burial will be in Limestone Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Appleton died Friday, Aug. 18, 2006, at home. She was born April 2, 1949, in Limestone County to Leroy Putman and Annabell McCluskey. He was a member of Faith Tabernacle Church.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth S. Appleton; daughter, Beth Hastings of Athens; stepdaughter, Dorie Russ of Veto; grandchildren, Amber Hobbs, Aaron Hobbs and Ryan Hobbs; sisters, Rachel Clem and Ruth Chambers, both of Elkmont, and Katherine Chambers of Athens; brothers, Bob Putman of Athens; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Grady and Cecil Putman, both of Houston, Texas.

Pallbearers will be Zach Moore, Adam Chambers, Wade Evans, Dural Clem, Tommy Appleton and Hubert Appleton.



William Herbert Beutjer

Funeral for William Herbert Beutjer, 75, of 17582 Lakeside Estates Road, Athens, will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home in Athens with the Rev. Beth Thomason officiating. Burial will be in Elkview Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Mr. Beutjer died Friday, Aug. 18, 2006, at Huntsville Hospital.

He was a Korean War veteran, NASA manager of HOSC, 25-year basketball official and baseball umpire. He retired from NASA in 1992 to enjoy his home on the Elk River. His hobbies included fishing, golfing, snow skiing, playing the drums, photography and, most of all, enjoying the title of Mr. Fix It. He will always be a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert William Beutjer and Ruth Esther Nachtigal, and a brother, Harold Beutjer.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Beutjer; five sons, Michael Beutjer and wife Stephanie of Huntsville, Mark Beutjer and wife Janet of Athens, Brad Beutjer and wife Leanna of Atlanta, Tim Beutjer and wife Annette of Calera, and Tommy Beutjer of Athens; one daughter, Christy and husband Mark Fawley of Peachtree City, Ga.; two sisters, Lynn Altergott and husband Ron of Athens, and Jo Ann and Bill McLellan of Wheaton, Ill.; Leah Beutjer of Athens, Scott Beutjer of Carrollton, Ga., Katie Beutjer of Birmingham, Patrick Beutjer of Calera, Will Beutjer of Muscle Shoals, Erin Beutjer of Troy, Allison Banta and husband Matt of Auburn, Casey Beutjer of Calera, Laney Beutjer of Huntsville, Jessica Beutjer of Peachtree City, Ga., Ben Beutjer of Athens, Cameron Beutjer of Calera, David Beutjer of Huntsville, Becca Beutjer of Peachtree City, Ga., Stacy Beutjer of Atlanta, Molly Beutjer of Atlanta, Abby Beutjer of Atlanta, Matthew Beutjer of Huntsville, and Braly Beutjer of Huntsville; and two great-grandchildren, Kyndall Beutjer of Athens and Denny Beutjer of Wheaton, Ill.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Beutjer, Scott Beutjer, David Beutjer, Cameron Beutjer, Ben Beutjer and Will Beutjer.

Honorary pallbearers will be Leah Beutjer, Katie Beutjer, Erin Beutjer, Allison Beutjer, Casey Beutjer, Laney Beutjer, Jessica Fawley, Becca Fawley, Stacey Beutjer, Abby Beutjer and Molly Beutjer.



Spurgeon J. Parlier

Funeral for Spurgeon J. Parlier, 90, 414 Hoffman St., Athens, will be at 3 p.m. Monday at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Eugene Britnell, Warren Glass and Kasey Harbin officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Parlier died Saturday, Aug. 19, 2006, at Athens-Limestone Hospital.

He was born March 21, 1916, in Ashe County, N.C., and was a journeyman machinist for Chrysler Corp. He was a member of Market Street Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife, Flo Parlier of Athens; one son, Jim Parlier and wife Peggy of Athens; grandchildren, Dr. R.P. Conway of Huntsville, John Parlier of Arab and Scott Parlier of Winchester, Tenn.; and seven great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be members of Market Street Church of Christ.
