Singing on the Square tonight

Singing on the Square will be tonight at 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. The event will be located outdoors, on the east side of the courthouse. All people planning to attend should bring lawn chairs.
“At the last one we had right at 300 people attending. Considering it was 100 degree weather, I thought that was a perfect crowd,” said Jeanette Rich, tourism director for the Greater Limestone County Chamber of Commerce.
This event’s purpose is to bring more focus to the downtown square and the merchants there.
“When we started the singing it was to bring attention to the square, hoping that businesses would stay open like restaurants and unique shops,” said Rich
However, she said, only two shops are taking advantage of the potential customers that come along for the Singing on the Square.
“Pablo’s on Market and Sassy’s Fraz will be open for food and drinks. They’ve both said they’ve had an increase in business and new customers because of it,” said Rich. “I wish some of the other businesses would stay open because, during some of the breaks, people would probably wonder around and look in the businesses.”
Tonight, The Silver Eagle Band is scheduled to perform at the monthly singing.
“This band is a country southern rock band. Their music fits the crowd,” said Rich. “They’ll play music we’ll all enjoy.”
All bands donate their time and equipment for the singing in return for the exposure and a good time.
“It gives the bands exposure,” said Rich. “Maybe other people will book them later with a little money attached to it. But they all seem to just enjoy it.”
The Greater Limestone County Chamber of Commerce have groups scheduled for the event through November. Groups scheduled to play include The Silver Eagle Band scheduled tonight, The Servants, scheduled for September, Jeff Whitlow and The Old Barn Band is scheduled for October, and Clear Title is scheduled for November.
Arrangements are being made for a Hispanic group, a jazz player, and possibly an all-female, a cappella group.
“If any bands or performers would like to donate their time and would like to perform they should give me a call and I’ll get them on the list,” said Rich.
