A 29-year-old Athens man was arrested by Athens police Tuesday and charged with firing several shots into an occupied home.
Bryan Terrell Jackson, of 2112 Stanford St., was in the Limestone County Jail charged with discharging a firearm into a building. Police said additional charges against the suspect could be added.
Capt. Marty Bruce said Jackson has not admitted to shooting into the home on Westmoreland Street late Monday. But he said police have witnesses who tell them it was Jackson who fired several shots into the house and fled in a 1993 Astro van. That van was later recovered. It had been reported stolen earlier in the day.
“Jackson said the victim (who was inside the house at the time of the shooting) slipped up behind him and hit him over the head with a beer bottle from an argument they got into over a girl’s bicycle,” Bruce said. “Jackson said the victim was working on the bicycle and did not return it to him.”
Lt. Floyd Johnson said police were called to the scene of the shooting at approximately 4:30 p.m. Monday, when someone reported shots had been fired into a home. Johnson said police know of one person and maybe more inside the house at the time of the gunfire.
“No one was hit that we know of,” Johnson said. “We have not found a weapon yet, but we did recover several shell casings from a 9 millimeter handgun.”
Police converged on the area in West Athens just after the call came in and had a suspect in custody within minutes.
“When the officers got in behind the suspect, he pulled over and did not resist,” Johnson said.
