They say Mark Anthony Angus hired two men to kill Elkmont resident Michael Bryant because Bryant had stolen guns from his home.
Nearly three years after the execution-style killing,, Angus, 37, of Ardmore will stand trial on a charge of capital murder.
Limestone County District Attorney Kristi Valls will try Angus Monday in Limestone County Circuit Court. The trial is expected to last most of the week.
Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely says Angus hired out-of-towners, James Mason Duncan and Joshua Loyd Southwick, to kill Bryant in November, 2003. Duncan, 23, of Arkansas and Southwick, 23, of Michigan are awaiting trial and may testify in court against Angus.
Blakely said Duncan and Southwick are accused of entering a mobile home just north of Sandlin Road near Elkmont killing Bryant, execution style. At the time, Bryant’s girlfriend and members of her family were inside the home. All three men were later indicted on charges of capital murder.
At the time of their arrests 15 days after the murder, Blakely said Duncan and Southwick told investigators that Angus hired them to kill Bryant and five other people.
Investigators said Angus knew Bryant because the two formerly worked construction jobs together.
