Wrecks injure several motorists on I-65, U.S. 72

An Athens woman was seriously injured in a 2:30 p.m. wreck Thursday in front of Isom’s Orchard on U.S. 72.
Laura Jackson, 61, of Hall Road, was transported to Huntsville Hospital with serious injuries, an Athens Police officer said.
A report of her condition was unavailable from the hospital Thursday night.
According to ambulance radio transmissions, the woman was flown by MedFlight helicopter to Huntsville Hospital after she was transported by ground ambulance to Athens-Limestone Hospital.
Jackson was traveling east on the highway at the time of the wreck. The cause of the accident was being investigated.
Four injured on I-65
In a separate accident in Limestone County, four people were injured in a collision between a car and a tractor-trailer truck on Interstate 65 Friday morning.
The accident occurred five miles south of Athens at about 8:40 a.m., a State Trooper spokeswoman said.
Phillip Hobgood of Mississippi, driver of a 2000 Freightliner truck, was treated at Athens-Limestone Hospital and released, a hospital spokeswoman said. He was not wearing a seat belt, the trooper said.
Driver of the 1987 Chevrolet car, Lonnie Barron, 80, of Geraldine,, also was injured, along with his passengers, Charles Barron, 55, and Ricky Davis, 45, both of Geraldine. They also were treated at Athens-Limestone Hospital and released, the spokeswoman said.
None of the men in the car were wearing seat belts, the trooper said.
