Lindsay Lane widening likely to take weeks

Residents living or working near the U.S. 72-Lindsay Lane intersection can expect another six to eight weeks of construction work, according to Public Works Director James Rich.
“When completed and fully functional, the intersection should be similar to the one at Forrest Street and U.S. 31,” said Rich. “The widening extends from Whitfield Drive on the south to Summit Lakes on the north.”
Officials said last spring that they hoped to have the work completed by the beginning of the school year. However, there was from four-to-six weeks of utility construction that preceded the widening project.
“We had to move fiber optics cable, telephone lines, electric, gas and water,” said Rich.
The $750,000 project is funded through $150,000 in Alabama Department of Transportation grant money, plus $600,000 in 2002 warrant funds, Rich said.
