Athens police have charged a 34 year-old Athens man with second-degree assault in connection with a weekend stabbing incident.
Miguel Delecruz, of 1509 N. Jefferson St., was jailed in connection with the stabbing of Rosalio A. Estevan, 42, of 1009 N. Madison St., Athens.
Capt. Marty Bruce said Delecruz was chasing Estevan at Estevan’s residence when Estevan ran onto his porch.
Bruce said that is when Delecruz allegedly broke a beer bottle and stabbed Estevan in the chest and shoulder with it. Bruce said that when Estevan tried to get away, Delecruz reached down and cut Estevan’s throat with the broken bottle.
Estevan was taken to Athens-Limestone Hospital, where he was treated and released.
Bruce said investigators have not yet determined why Delecruz was chasing Estevan, but that Detective Dustin Lansford is still investigating the incident.
“We don’t have a motive at this time, but both men were apparently drinking,” Bruce said.
