The Limestone County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the death of a Madison County man who hanged himself Monday in a Huntsville jail cell.

The man, Lorenzo Horton, 26, who was charged with killing his 5-month-old daughter in 2005, was found dead in his cell Monday morning.

“We were asked to investigate by Madison County authorities and Capt. Stanley McNatt is looking into it,”said Limestone County Chief Deputy Randy King.” Stanley is in Huntsville today (Tuesday).”

Horton was discovered when guards and a nurse made their 4 a.m. rounds, authorities said. He used bed sheets to hang himself. Attempts were made to resuscitate him.

He was in a single-occupancy cell, but was not on suicide watch, authorities said. Madison County Chief Deputy Chris Stevens said there was no indication that he was considering suicide.

Horton was charged in December 2005 for killing his 5-month-old daughter, who died of a head injury. He was awaiting trial.

Also Tuesday, McNatt was presenting the county’s findings in a shooting on U.S. 72 East, which resulted in Huntsville SWAT team members shooting a 51-year-old man during a raid.

King said McNatt was presenting that evidence to an incident review board that was directed by Huntsville Police Chief Rex Reynolds to review evidence in the June 27 shooting to determine if a Huntsville SWAT team acted properly by using deadly force to subdue Kenneth Jarmar, 51. Jamar was shot several times when agents raided a home on Honey Way during a federal investigation. He admitted brandishing a gun.

Jamar has since been released from Huntsville Hospital.
