Irene H. Griffin

A graveside service for Irene H. Griffin, 84, of Decatur, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Limestone Memorial Gardens with Charles Littrell officiating.

Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home.

Ms. Griffin died Wednesday, July 12, 2006, at Country Cottage in Decatur.

She was a member of the Church of Christ. She was born Feb. 23, 1922, in Limestone County to Joe Harvey and Gussie Anerton Harvey.

She is survived by one son, Carmon Griffin and wife Peggy of Decatur; one grandson, Russ Griffin and wife Angela of Decatur; two great-grandsons, Russell Griffin and Thomas Griffin, both of Decatur; three sisters, Louise Holt, Maxine Daws and Christine Black, all of Athens; three brothers, Robert E. Harvey, J.W. Harvey and Harold Harvey, all of Athens; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Griffin, daughter, Betty Jean Davis and grandson, Ronnie Davis.

Pallbearers will be Russ Griffin, Kevin Daws, Wesley Harvey, Joe Harvey, David Harvey and Andy Harvey.

Memorials may be made to Wiregrass Hospice of Decatur.



Col. (Ret.) David Campbell Smith

A memorial service for Col. (Ret.) David Campbell Smith, 76, of Harvest, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Madison Chapel Funeral Home. The family will receive friends an hour before the service.

Mr. Smith was born in Long Beach, Calif. on Feb. 11, 1930. He served 32 years in the military. He began his career in the U.S. Navy and later enlisted in the Army. He completed his military service in 1979 as deputy commander of the U.S. Army Missile Research and Development Command. Subsequently, he was employed by Teledyne Brown Engineering and SCI Systems. He retired in 1995.

He is survived by his wife Patsy Smith of Harvest; four daughters, Sabrina Hilley of Huntsville, Rhonda Hancock of Huntsville, Stephanie Smith of Huntsville and Courtney Barnes of Tunnel Hill, Ga.; two sons, David Smith Jr. of Los Angeles, Calif. and Eric King of Elkmont; and ten grandchildren.
