Milton Edward Norwood

This is a story about the life of Milton Edward Norwood. Milton was born on Oct. 7, 1954, in Athens to Charles and Elizabeth Norwood. Milton has three sisters, Iris Johnson, Phyllis Morris, and Sylvia Grubbs; and one brother Melvin Norwood, all of Athens. He grew up in the East Limestone area of Limestone County. He attended East Limestone High School. He met Joyce, the love of his life, when he was employed at King’s Garage, which was owned by her daddy. He needed change for a quarter to buy a coke and Joyce came to the rescue and gave him change. They dated for five months and got married on Aug. 3, 1973. On Aug. 27, 1974, they gave birth to their first child, Dennis Edward Norwood. Four years later, on April 20, 1978, their daughter Sabrina Kelly Norwood was born. Milton and Joyce raised their family in Athens, in the Clements area; Dennis and Sabrina both graduated from Clements High School. Milton was employed by Dan Wachtel as a transmission mechanic for 12 years.

Milton and Joyce had their first grandchild July 10, 1994, Jonathan Dakota Norwood. From then came Madison Brianna Rouse on Aug. 31, 2000; Hunter Blake Norwood on April 16, 2001; Austin Paul Rouse on Aug. 14, 2003. Milton also had two step grandchildren Corey O’Neal Rogers and Taylor Ann Rogers. Dennis is married to Amanda Norwood; Sabrina is married to Jason Rouse. Milton was known throughout the county as a hardworking man who could build or fix anything. He was well respected and loved by any and everyone who knew him. He was always doing something, and if you caught him standing still for a minute you could bet he was thinking about his next task. He was very tough and at the same time very loving. He leaves behind a life that any man would be proud of, some would say he had a life you could hang your hat on.

He had several sides to him, he was very tough, strong, and would stand up and fight for what he believed in and to protect anyone. He would fight to the end. No problem was too big. He was the backbone of the family. Everyone turned to him for help and support them in their time of need, and no matter what it was he took the problem and made it his own. He had no fear. Everyone knows how big his hands are and what he could do with them and those who knew him well knew his heart was even bigger. He was and still is larger than life.

Funeral services for Milton Edward Norwood, 51, of Athens, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Randy Johnson and Ross Clemmons officiating. Burial will be in Myers Cemetery.
