Approximately 1,500 businesses and households in the Ardmore area of northeast Limestone County were without electrical power during the lunch hour Friday when a substation breaker was knocked out of service after a wreck.

“A car hit the pole and knocked the breaker out,” said Athens Electric DepartmentManager Gary Scroggins. “We sent a crew to the Ardmore area and they had power restored within a half hour.”’

Scoggins estimated that between 1,200 and 1,500 customers were without electricity from 11:45 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. He said apparently no one was hurt in the wreck or due to the power outage.

“Apparentlysome one ran off the road and hit the power pole,” he said. “But it didn’t take long to clear everything up.”

The wreck occurred on Alabama 53 south of Gatlin Road.
