A public hearing to discuss a proposed revision in the city’s master plan for future development on Balustrol Street is expected to draw a crowd at Monday night’s Athens City Council meeting.

Developer David Wright is seeking the change, which if granted, will allow him to construct three more homes on the 2.3 acres in question.

“It’s my understanding he already has six houses planned for the area andnow he wants a change to construct nine,” said Councilman Harold Wales. “I know there are some people upset about it and we are expecting a crowd at Monday night’s meeting.”

The hearing is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m. in the council chambers at Athens City Hall.

Wales said Wright is requesting a density change from low to high.

In other action, the council will discuss a resolution to have a study conducted pertaining to the need for a satellite post office on the east side of Athens.

Also, a resolution will be introduced to set aside monies from the 2005 Warrant Fund for the construction of a fire station at the Athens-Limestone Medical Village property off U.S. 72 East near Lindsay Lane.

The council will also consider resolutions appointing two members to the Athens Board of Education. The terms of Ernest Campbell and Mack Smith are expiring. Both members are seeking reappointment to another term. City school board members serve without pay
