Heather Houghton’s two-out single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Mindy Staggs and lifted the Athens Bible School Lady Trojans to a 5-4 varsity softball win over Lexington on Monday.

Houghton led the Lady Trojans with a single, triple, and two RBIs. Kirsten McClure had a single and double with two RBIs.



Sparkman 5, Athens 4

A shaky first-inning of defense led to Athens High’s demise in a 5-4 varsity softball loss to Sparkman on Monday.

Three Lady Eagles’ errors led to four Sparkman runs in the first inning, and the Lady Senators went up 5-0 with an earned run in the fourth.

Athens battled back with RBIs from Courtney White, Brianna Holt and Kristina Prater in a four-run seventh inning, but came up a run short. Lacy Kerr, Brittany Wallace and Tiffinee Eaton also had hits in that inning.

Whitney Hawkins allowed four hits and struck out two in four innings. Kerr allowed no hits, walked one and struck out five over the final three.
