Toughened against some of the stiffest competition in North Alabama, the West Limestone Lady Wildcats continued their run through Class 3A, Area 14 on Tuesday.
Dayla Christopher had three hits and Brandy Rice had two to lead West to a 10-1 win over Lauderdale County.
The Lady Wildcats (16-15 overall, 7-0 in area) are the area champions for the second year under head coach Luther Smith.
“Facing the competition, we’ve had to make ourselves get better,” Christopher said. “We’ve really improved a lot by playing those teams.
“We’ve seen a lot of quicker pitchers, and it makes you get your eye on it more. You learn to adjust.”
Leading 1-0, the Lady Wildcats broke open the game with five runs in the third inning.
Ashley Blankenship drove in two runs with a single. Christopher singled in one run.
Christopher and Dana Springer had run-scoring hits in a three-run sixth for the Lady Wildcats.
Blankenship struck out 10 and allowed one hit and one run in earning the win.
