Warhawks stay in first place

Through 10 innings, Thursday had been a gloomy day for the Calhoun Lady Warhawks against Wallace State-Hanceville at Wilson Morgan Park.

But the Alabama Community College Conference North Division leaders woke up up just in time.

The Lady Warhawks (24-8 overall) scored three runs in the fourth inning and five in the sixth to rally for an 8-7 win over the Lady Lions in the second game of a doubleheader. Calhoun (10-2 in division) had dropped the first game 5-0.

Brittany Norton scored from third when Jenea Stephenson reached on an error to complete the five-run rally in the sixth.

Jennifer Brewer drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the first run. Kala Weatherly had a two-run double, while Norton had an RBI-single for Calhoun’s other runs in the inning.

Weatherly led Calhoun with two hits, including a double. Alicia Hall got the win with an inning of relief.

In the opener, Breanna Lee was the losing pitcher. Rachael Carden, Norton,

Stephenson, and Lacey Keenum had singles for the Lady Warhawks.

The Lady Warhawks will take the Easter weekend off before returning to the diamond on Tuesday to play Southern Union Community College at 4 at Wilson Morgan Park, Field 6.

Matt Montgomery had three hits to help the Warhawks double up Sumiton in the third game of their five-game ACCC North Division series.

The Warhawks (33-6 overall, 11-2 in conference) also got two hits, including a home run, from Martin Warren.

Jay Sively got the win, striking out six in the complete-game effort.
