Lady Rattlers, Lady Indians get victories

Haley and Hollye Keenum hit home runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, Thursday, to lift Tanner to a 7-5 girls’ softball win over Elkmont.
The Lady Rattlers trailed 5-4 entering their final at-bat, but Haley Keenum led off with a home run to tie the game. After Beth Anne Flippo walked, Hollye Keenum had the game-winning blast.
Elizabeth Lock drove in two runs in a four-run fifth inning to give Elkmont a 4-3 lead. Bailee Robinson tripled and scored on Chelsea Draper’s single to make it 5-3 in the sixth.
Alex Bohanon singled, stole two bases and scored on a Ashley Hines sacrifice to pull Tanner within a run in the sixth.
Flippo, Whitney Stephens and Cecily Woods had run-scoring singles in the first inning to give Tanner a 3-0 lead.
East Limestone 6, West Limestone 1
Danielle Holder’s two-run double highlighted a four-run sixth inning to help the Lady Indians put away the Lady Wildcats.
East (26-9) led just 2-1 when Morgan Franks hit a one-out double. Chelsea Turner and Cassandra McKinney followed with RBI singles.
Medley gave up two hits and one run in the first of seven innings pitched, but shut out West the rest of the way. She finished with nine strikeouts.
Elizabeth Dison suffered the loss for the Lady Wildcats, giving up nine hits and one walk while striking out two.
Lawrence County 2, Ardmore 1
Casey Steadman pitched a two-hitter, but couldn’t overcome five Lady Tigers’ errors in a one-run loss on the road in Class 4A, Area 15.
The Lady Devils took advantage of two errors to score a single run in the first inning, then took advantage of another miscue in the fifth for the winning run.
Ardmore, meanwhile, was limited to three hits by Lawrence County pitcher Mandy Borden. Melissa Sharp walked and scored on Steadman’s double in the first inning. Sharp had a fourth-inning single, and Amber Wise had a seventh-inning single.
Steadman struck out nine and walked two.
Girls’ tennis
Buckhorn 6, Athens 3
Rachel Rosales had victories in singles and doubles, while Brock Brett added a singles’ victory in the Lady Eagles loss to the Buckhorn girls.
Rosales defeated Kelly Jacks 8-5 at No. 4 singles, and teamed with Betsy Butler to beat Jacks and Steca Ross 11-9 at No. 2 doubles. Brett beat Beverly Love 8-2 at No. 5 doubles.
In other singles’ results, Lisa Medley lost to Allison Gladness 8-1 at No. 1 singles; Elizabeth Hunt lost to Katie Buchanon 8-2 at No. 2; Butler lost to Ross 8-6 at No. 3; and Mary Payton Noah lost 9-7 to Courtney Jacobs at No. 6.
In doubles, Medley and Hunt lost to Buchanon and Gladness 10-6 at No. 1; and Brett and Mary Ellen Coleman lost to Jacobs and Spacek 11-10 at No. 3.
