Clements, East, Tanner in playoffs

The Clements Colts beat Lexington 4-3 Tuesday and then got word that Mars Hill had defeated Hatton earning the Colts the Class 2A, Area 15 baseball championship.

The Colts got a dramatic seventh inning hit from Titus Wright to drive in the winning run Tuesday against Lexington.

Jesse Cobb, Matthew Moore and Blake Moore all had key hits for Clements..

Meanwhile, East Limestone clinched a baseball playoff spot by beating East Lawrence 10-3 Tuesday at home.

Cody Wales was the winner, pitching a complete game allowing five hits while striking out eight.

Clay Bailey had two hits including a double and three RBIs. Daniel Tucker, Jarrod Laxson and Adam Davis also had key hits for the Indians.

The win enabled East to avenge a 12-6 loss to East Lawrence on the road Monday.

The Indians will travel to Dora of Walker County in the first round of the playoffs on April 25.



Muscle Shoals

takes two from AHS

Muscle Shoals beat Athens 4-3 and 10-0 in a doubleheader Tuesday.

Chris Stewart had a single and double for Athens, while Brian Young, Martin Ezell and Tyler Dorning also had hits for the Golden Eagles.



Tanner 8,

Priceville 2

Cliff Bunch had two hits, including a two-run double in the opening inning to get things started as Tanner wrapped up a Class 2A, Area 14 playoff berth with an 8-2 win over Priceville.

Clay McMeans got the win, striking out six in seven innings of work.

Brandon gist and Chip Greenhaw also had two hits for Tanner.

Elkmont 31,

Randolph 1

The Red Devils pounded out 22 hits in the lopsided win. Elkmont improves to 17-6 and 2-3 in the area.

Matthew Vaughn got the win. He struck out 10, walked five and gave up three hits.

Steven Laye, Bobby Barton, Chance Newby and Chris Barnett all had multiple hits for the Red Devils.

Tanner 10,

ABS 2

In Tuesday softball action, Tanner got some strong pitching from Haley Keenum and beat ABS.

Keenum struck out three and Alex Bohanon closed the game striking out one.

Keenum, Bohanon, Whitney Stephens, Cecily Woods and Beth Ann Flippo led the Lady Rattlers at the plate.
