A well-known Athens tree-trimmer was killed Friday afternoon after he was struck on the head by a limb while cutting a tree near Somerville, according to friends.

A Huntsville Hospital spokeswoman confirmed that LaDon Parsons, 50, of Athens, died in the emergency room Friday, but she said she could not give out any other information.

Friends from Valley Church, where Parsons was a member, exchanged phone calls and emails shortly after the accident, but none could confirm any details.

Travis Fleming, a friend, said Parsons had “cut trees all over town” and was well known. He said Parsons usually worked alone. However, friends say that Parsons’ adult son was working with him and called 911 to report the accident.

Parsons was flown by MedFlight helicopter to Huntsville Hospital, where he died shortly after arriving, according to friends.
