Limestone County authorities Thursday were continuing to investigate the home invasion robbery Monday night of retired State Farm Insurance agent James Leopard.
“We do not have a suspect at this time, but we are still investigating,” said Limestone County Chief Investigator Stanley McNatt. “We need a lead because we need to get this guy.”
Limestone County Sheriff Mike Blakely said the man forced his way into Leopard’s home Monday night robbing Leopard and his wife of approximately $140. The Leopards were not hurt.
Blakely speculated that the suspect is a drug addict who needed money for drugs. The sheriff said a substantial reward is being offered for information that will lead to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible.
Blakely said a man knocked on the front door at the Leopard home on Page Road near Tanner at 8 p.m. and when Leopard answered the door, the man opened the storm door and forced his way inside. He had stick in his hand and demanded money from the couple.
Dogs from the Limestone Correctional Facility were called in and tracked the suspect, a black male about 30 years of age, to nearby Kelly Road where authorities believe he got into a vehicle and drove away.
