Lady Colts crash into Hornets’ nest

Hatton High girls basketball coach Rheta Harrison says he hasn’t seen her Lady Hornets rebound like this all year.
The Clements Lady Colts wish they wouldn’t have started Tuesday night.
Hatton got 50 rebounds, including 11 from Kayla Burden and rolled to a 56-43 win over the Lady Colts in the opening round of the Class 2A, Area 15 Tournament at Tanner High School.
The Hornets (14-14) had 33 rebounds at halftime, including 14 on the offensive end, in building a 28-13 halftime lead, and were never really threatened.
Hatton stretch its lead to 19, 32-13, following Kaitlyn Fleming’s basket just 49 seconds into the second half.
Clements got within 11, 41-30, after Laci Beth Ham’s bakset with 6:32 left in the game.
The Lady Colts got within nine, 49-40, after Jordan Beggs’ 3-pointer with 2:23 left in the game, but Chloe Malone and Burden each had baskets and Eric Shelton and Fleming san free throws to push the margin back to 16 points.
Fleming’s free throw with 13.1 seconds left made it, 56-40.
Beggs’ 3-pointer with 0.1 seconds left provided the final margin.
Burden led the Hornets with 18 points and 11 rebounds.
Fleming added 12 points and eight reobunds. While Malone had eight rebounds to go wiht six points.
Amanda Rutherford was also in double figures with 10 points.
Beggs had a game-high 19 points for Clements (8-21), including nine on three 3-point baskets in the final 3:49 of play.
LaCresha Petty was the only other Lady Colt in double figures with 10 points.
Whitney Mooney added six.
The Lady Colts made just 7 of 18 free throws in the contest, while the Lady Hornets aank 14 of 23.
In the opening half, neither team shot well. Hatton was 9 of 36, while Clements was 5 of 24.
They were a combined 2 of 27 from 3-point range in the first two quarters.
Hatton held a 33-16 rebounded edge at halftime and finished with a 50-31 advantage.
