Black Bears bite back at Eagles

DECATUR – Shun Long put back an offensive rebound with 1.4 seconds to play Tuesday night to lift the Austin Black Bears to a 63-62 high school basketball win at home over Athens High.
The Golden Eagles (13-11) had taken a 62-61 lead on Larquis Crutcher’s driving lay-up with 9.4 seconds to play. Athens led 18-15 after one quarter, and 37-30 at halftime, but Austin outscored its visitors 18-12 in the third quarter to pull within one, 49-48.
Crutcher led Athens with 27 points, including 11 of 17 shooting, and six rebounds. Justin Pitts added 10 points, while Zack Brock had eight.
Long had 21 points and 16 rebounds for Austin, which out-rebounded Athens 38-24.
Tanner 73, R.A. Hubbard 63
COURTLAND – Michael Faulk had 25 points and Latraius Mosley added 18 as Tanner pulled away late to beat R.A. Hubbard by 10 points on the road.
The Rattlers (26-2) were locked in a 46-46 tie entering the fourth quarter, but outscored their hosts 27-17 in the final period. Tanner had trailed 16-12 after one quarter, and the two teams were tied 31-31 at halftime.
Faulk also had eight rebounds, while Mosley had six for the Rattlers. Clay McMeans added 10 points, and Jarrod Harrison scored seven. Matthew Turberville had eight assists and two blocked shots.
The Chiefs were led by Quinn McGhee with 18 points, and Labrandon Key with 13.
East Limestone 74,
Good Hope 68
CULLMAN – Eric McCrary and Chad Dewitt each recorded double-doubles as East Limestone overcome a sub-par third quarter to pull out a six-point win on the road at Good Hope.
The Indians (16-11) led 14-13 after one quarter and 35-28 at halftime, but they were outscored by the Raiders 25-14 in the third quarter and trailed 53-49 entering the final period.
East bounced back to outscore its host 25-15 in the final quarter to pick up the win.
McCrary led the Indians with 26 points and 13 rebounds, while Dewitt had 21 points and 11 rebounds. Brad Hill added 10 points and 10 assists for East.
Good Hope was led by Nick Walling with 20 points and Alex Richter with 18.
Lauderdale County 80, Ardmore 59
Duron Robinson scored 12 points, and Eric Atchley added 11 but it wasn’t enough for Ardmore at home against the Tigers.
The visiting Tigers (24-2) led throughout, holding a 46-25 advantage at halftime and never looking back.
Shawn Watkins scored 20 points, and Tyler Williams added 18 to lead Lauderdale County.
Ardmore, which concludes the regular season at home against West Morgan on Friday and Richland, Tenn. next Tuesday, fell to 8-15.

Tanner 57,
R.A. Hubbard 46
COURTLAND – Hollye Keenum scored 26 points as the Lady Rattlers got back on the winning track with an 11-point win on the road at R.A. Hubbard.
Keenum made just 7 of 21 field goals, but was 10 of 11 at the free throw line and the only play in the game to reach double figures. Whitney Stephens added eight points for Tanner (22-5), while Jessica Urias, Cecily Woods and Briona Yarbrough scored six points each.
Yarbrough had 11 rebounds to lead the Lady Rattlers to a 48-37 advantage on the backboards. Tanner had 21 offensive rebounds, including six by Mikala Malone.
Travia Ashford led Hubbard with nine points.
Athens 54, Austin 46
DECATUR – Courtney Medlen and Keona Shoulders scored 15 points each to lead the Lady Eagles to an eight-point road win at Austin High School.
Athens trailed 22-17 at the half, but outscored the Lady Black Bears 37-24 in the final two quarters.
Medlen finished with eight rebounds and four assists to go along with her 15 points. Shoulders had seven rebounds. Sierra Caudle added 10 points and seven rebounds for Athens.

Elkmont 57,
Athens Bible 45
Darryl Smith had a double-double with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while Logan Brown came close with 15 points and nine rebounds in an Elkmont win.
The Red Devils (6-20) broke from an 11-11 tie after one quarter with a 12-7 advantage in the second quarter to build a 23-18 lead. Elkmont still led 40-36 after three quarters and stretched that advantage by outscoring ABS 17-9 in the final period.
Cody Nave had 18 points, and Ryan Morning added nine for the Trojans.
Girls
Elkmont 58,
Athens Bible 40
Jamie Lack scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Lady Devils (10-17) to the win.
Elkmont led 18-6 after one quarter, 34-21 at halftime and 46-28 after three periods.
Kirsten McClure had a double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds for the Lady Trojans. Athena Hinkle added 10 points, and Jennifer Underwood contributed nine.
Olivia Pressnell added seven points for Elkmont.
