If you really want to have a heart for Valentine’s Day, buy sweets for your sweetie from The Club House in Athens and the proceeds will help the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama.
Members of the Boys & Girls Club of Athens are taking orders for confections and dinners-to-go, which will be available for pickup Friday at The Club House because Valentine’s Day falls on Sunday.
“We did this last year and did pretty well, we made about $1,200 for the clubs,” said Suzanne Rainey, executive director of Boys & Girls Clubs of North Alabama.
Among the goodies available for purchase are heart-shaped brownies, red velvet cake, baby brownies with fresh strawberries and Kahlua cream, strawberry cupcakes and chocolate-covered strawberries — only 45 calories for those watching their weight.
Dinner-to-go could include classic lasagna, feta pork lasagna, chicken a la king or grilled eggplant Parmesan — only 200 calories for those trying to slim.
You don’t have to have a sweetie to reserve lunch or confections. You can buy them for yourself, your colleagues or your overworked, downtrodden employees.
Tuesday is the deadline to order both sweets and dinner-to-go. To place an order, call (256) 233-4045.
The Club House, located at 121 S. Marion St., east of the Limestone County Courthouse, is operated by the Athens Boys & Girls Club, which includes clubs in Athens, Tanner, Ardmore and Madison County. Members learn job skills and customer service while raising money for the club.
Here are the menu items and the cost:
Confections
• Chocolate covered strawberries for $1.99 each or $20 per dozen
• Conversation heart petit fours for $1.50 each or $15 per dozen
• Candy bar heart-shaped brownies for $1.75 each
• Baby brownie with fresh strawberry and Kahlua cream for $1.25 each or $12 per dozen
• Red velvet cupcakes for $2.50 each
Dinners to go
• Classic meat lasagna
• Feta pork lasagna
• Chicken a la king with rice
• Grilled eggplant parmesan
Each entree comes with a garden salad, bread and cheesecake. Meals are $30 each and serve 2 to 4 people.
