City, county classrooms receive bins for recycling

Students have ‘bin’ busy

— Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful has “bin” very busy.

Marsha Patterson, recycling coordinator at KALB has spent several days with volunteer Kelly Range delivering recycling bins to every classroom in Athens and Limestone County schools.

The bins were purchased with grant money received through the Alabama Recycling Funds Grant Program administered by the Alabama Department of Environmental Management.

“Every school in Athens and Limestone County already participates in our recycling program,  but most had no means to recycle inside the classroom.  This addition will give the students an immediate choice to recycle,” said Patterson.  “We saw the need and we filled it.”

Athens Middle School’s recycling program is managed by the Future Business Leaders of America students. Amanda Gibbs, Career Tech/Business Education teacher and FBLA adviser, oversees the program.

The Athens-Limestone Recycling Center, a division of Keep Athens-Limestone Beautiful, will track the amount of recycling coming from each school in an effort to gauge the environmental impact this additional program will have in the community.

For information, visit www.KeepAthensLimestoneBeautiful.com or call 256-233-800.  You may email Patterson at Recycling44@yahoo.com.
