Athens State University and the Daughters of the American Revolution will celebrate Constitution Day with lunch and activities Monday in the ballroom of Sandridge Student Center.
Constitution Day will kicks off at 11 a.m. with a hot dog cookout on the lawn in front of the Sandridge Center, sponsored by Athens State’s Student Government Association.
The Constitution Day Program will begin at noon. The public is invited for lunch and the program at no charge.
“In the past this has been two separate ceremonies by each institution,” said Debra Baird, dean of the College of Education. “Bringing together the Daughters of the American Revolution and Athens State University for this seems like an appropriate move. We are looking forward to a great event.”
Baird and Ron Fritze, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, are serving as Athens State coordinators.
Various speakers from both Athens State and the DAR will participate in the program.
Athens State students who participated in the Constitution Day trivia contest will be recognized and the winners will be recognized and awarded bookstore gift cards.
Boy Scout Troop 240 will be on hand for a flag ceremony, the ladies of the DAR will present a “Ringing of the Bells” ceremony, and all in attendance will be asked to sign a copy of the Preamble to the Constitution.
