Giving away free school supplies in the fall and free bikes and toys at Christmas are two projects worth keeping.
But both require money.
So, members of the Lincoln-Bridgeforth Park Committee are going to try to raise some money with a charity flea market at the Athens park on Saturday, Nov. 28.
If you have anything worth selling stuffed in your attic, closets or garage, the committee could sure use it.
Proceeds will go toward the committee’s activities, which include the school supplies, toy giveaway, tree lighting and other events, said Committee Secretary Robbin Hines.
Other groups and individuals also can sell goods at the flea market and keep the proceeds for themselves, she said, or donate the money to the Committee.
“We want to sell yard-sale items, arts and crafts and we want to drum up interest in the park,” Hines said. “We hope to turn it into one of the biggest annual yard sales and trade days.”
Booth rental is $35 for the day – from 6 a.m. to dark – or participants can set up their own tent for the same price, she said. To register, vendors should come to the park pavilion at 3 p.m. Monday to reserve a spot and pay the fee.
Vendors can sell anything that is legal, she said, but the committee would prefer they not sell animals.
Hines said the committee is proud of the park and wants to make it a hub of activity for the community.
“It used to not be one of the best parks, but we have put a lot of special attention on it to make it what it is now and we want to keep doing community service,” she said.
In the future, the committee hopes to have a free summer concert series and small festivals.
