Athens Police responded Tuesday afternoon after a man said a woman stabbed him and was trying to run him down with her white sport utility vehicle as he fled on foot.
Police say Jessica Marie Allen, a 27 year-old Athens resident, was driving her 2000 Ford Explorer on Plainview Circle in Athens accompanied by her 28 year-old ex-boyfriend Marcus Ladell Seay, also an Athens resident.
Allen claimed Seay stole money from the center console of her vehicle. When Seay allegedly refused to return the money, Allen said she grabbed a small knife and stabbed him in the left shoulder. Police said Seay then jumped out of Allen’s SUV and ran.
Witnesses said Allen chased Seay with her Explorer by driving through yards and a ditch before making several laps around one house. She struck the corner of that house with her vehicle causing minor damage to the residence.
Officers caught up with Allen behind a house at the intersection of 12th Street and Highland Avenue. She immediately admitted stabbing Seay and was detained for questioning. Seay was located a short time later near the intersection of Browns Ferry Road and Plainview Circle. He was transported to Athens-Limestone Hospital and treated for the single cut to his arm. Seay was later released into the custody of Athens Police Department and arrested on two unrelated warrants.
Det. Lt. Chris Slaton charged Jessica Allen with one felony count of second-degree assault for stabbing Seay and one misdemeanor count of reckless endangerment for chasing him with her vehicle. Allen was booked at Athens Police Department then placed in the Limestone County Jail. The homeowner decided not to press charges for the minor damage to his house, officials said. The incident remains under investigation.
