Field day highlights end of school year
Shoes, cold (at one time) drinks and popcorn mark the path to a popular bounce inflatable Tuesday morning at Athens Elementary School. Smith signs with NW Florida
Athens senior Alliyah Smith signed a basketball scholarship with Northwest Florida College at a ceremony Tuesday morning at Athens High School. Smith, a six-foot, two-inch center, played in the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game along with the AHSAA North-South All-Star game. Seated above from left are Alliyah’s sister, Carie Smith; niece, Malaysia Smith and father, James Smith. Standing are Athens head coach Eddie Murphree and assistant coach Dwayne Shoulders.

Bears LB Urlacher announces his retirement
CHICAGO (AP) — Star linebacker Brian Urlacher is calling it a career after 13 seasons with the Chicago Bears.
The eight-time Pro Bowl player announced his retirement on his Twitter account Wednesday. In a statement, he said, "After spending a lot of time this spring thinking about my NFL future, I have made a decision to retire."
