— Max Jones eats cheese while sampling recipes from different vendors during the 25th annual Hospice Chili Challenge. Hundreds of people filled the cafeteria and gymnasium of Athens High School Saturday to eat chili and bid on items at a silent auction, all to raise money for Limestone County’s end-of-life care organization. The highlight of the auction was an electric guitar donated by the Alabama Shakes, which organizers said would easily sell for approximately $1,000.

The Limestone County Board of Education approved the contract for Garth Garris, 44, during Tuesday’s board meeting. Garris was named the new principal of Ekmont High School, and he begins work June 24.
