Athens State University’s Livingston Concert Lecture Series will sponsor a performance by John McCutcheon Thursday to celebrate the kickoff of the Storytelling Festival.
The concert will be held in the Storytelling tent on the east side of the Limestone County Courthouse Square at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Admission is free.
McCutcheon, who writes songs about the nation’s heritage, covers a variety of subjects from a child’s haircut to freedom and human dignity. Those unfamiliar with his work may view McCutcheon as a combination of Pete Seeger and Mr. Rogers.
“John McCutcheon is one of the nation’s most acclaimed folk musicians,” said Concert Lecture Committee member Mary Nelle Clem. “We are so proud to be able to host him in Athens and to offer the concert free to the public. The Storytelling tent will be the perfect venue for it.”
McCutcheon will also be performing throughout the weekend as a storyteller.
Tickets for the Storytelling Festival are available for purchase at the Athens Shop of Athens State’s Center for Lifelong Learning or by visiting http://www.athensstorytellingfestival.com.
