Would-be millionaires lined up Wednesday afternoon at HP Max Fuel Express in Ardmore, Tenn., to purchase $2 lottery tickets for Wednesday night’s Powerball drawing.
The jackpot, an estimated $550 million, is a Powerball record. The numbers were to be drawn at 10 p.m. Wednesday.
Tickets were selling at a rate of 130,000 a minute nationwide — about six times the volume from a week ago. The jackpot has already rolled over 16 consecutive times without a winner.
A Tennessee Mega Millions ticket worth $250,000 was purchased at HP Max Fuel Express on March 30.
