Terry Jean Camp, 62, a resident Athens Rehabilitation and SeniorCare in Athens, was crowned Ms. Alabama Nursing Home Tuesday.
Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks read a proclamation at the crowning naming Oct. 16, 2012, Ms. Terry Camp Day.
Camp took part in the Ms. Alabama Nursing Home Pageant in late July and was named first runner-up. Ms. Alabama Nursing Home Viola Thomas of Willow Trace Nursing Center in Butler passed away leaving the duties of the title to Camp.
Camp said Thomas was full of life and she wanted to pay her tribute. “I hope she felt exactly the way I do now when she received the title,” she said. “I am very, very honored.”
Camp will travel to several community events and nursing homes to share her experiences as Ms. Alabama Nursing Home. She will also serve as an ambassador for other nursing home residents at different Alabama Nursing Home Association events.
Camp was born in Albertville to Betty and Irvy Camp.
She has traveled the world, living in nine countries, on four continents. She moved to Athens in 1979, and fell in love with the area.
She has three children, 11 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
“I am very honored to be chosen to represent my home,” Camp said earlier this year after receiving the title of Ms. Athens Rehabilitation and SeniorCare by competing in the facility’s local pageant. “I am very excited about the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people throughout the state. I’m just an old country girl and now I have the chance to be Cinderella for the day. I can’t wait!”
Now, Camp has become Cinderella for a year.
