Local residents turned out Thursday in observance of the National Day of Prayer at the Limestone County Courthouse. The event, “Prayer… America’s Hope” was sponsored locally by the Athens/Limestone Ministerial Alliance. Community leaders praying during the ceremony included: Dr. Robert Glenn, president Athens State University; Athens Mayor Dan Williams; Captain Marty Bruce, Athens Police Department; Sarah Chadwell, director Family Resource Center; Tony Kirk, Athens fire prevention chief; Chaplain Col. David Root, U.S. Army; Frank Travis, Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant; Jody Hooven, youth pastor Friendship United Methodist Church; Joe Teal minister of education/administration First Baptist Church; and Rev. Antoine Green, pastor New Life Missionary Baptist Church. Rob Phraner, pastor New Life Assembly of God and Athens/Limestone Ministerial Alliance president, was master of ceremonies and singing was Kathleen Phraner.
