GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) — Officials are investigating the death of a Riverview Regional Medical Center registered nurse whose body was found in a hospital restroom with empty vials of Demerol and used syringes.
The Gadsden Times reports that Etowah County Coroner Michael Gladden says a toxicology screen is being done on the body of 37-year-old Sherri Estes Wissler of Glencoe. The body was found Wednesday night.
Officials say she had worked at the hospital for 18 years.
Gadsden Police Lt. Mike Garigues says the department responded to a call after Wissler’s body was found on the second floor, where she worked.
Garigues says the city police department and the Alabama Department of Forensic Science expect to find the death was an accidental drug overdose but won’t know until a toxicology report comes back.
