SAN AUGUSTINE, Texas (AP) — A sheriff says a teenager and the stepfather who allegedly abducted her from state custody in southeast Alabama has been spotted by a minister in a small East Texas town.
San Augustine County Sheriff David Smith says a minister at the First Baptist Church in San Augustine reported that Charles Partin came to his church early Thursday seeking fuel money. Smith says the minister copies the driver's licenses of those seeking money.
Smith tells KLTV-TV of Tyler (http://bit.ly/PI7guF) that Partin got back into a green minivan, drove off with a woman and six children, gassed up nearby and headed west.
Officials say Partin abducted 15-year-old stepdaughter Ailene Lander from a Dothan, Ala., doctor's office Monday.
San Augustine is about 180 miles southeast of Dallas near the Louisiana border.
