WEBB, Ala. (AP) — A Clio man has been charged with arson after fire broke out at a group home in Webb.
Webb Police Chief Chris Jerkins says he charged 22-year-old Rander Walton with felony first-degree arson. Walton remained at the Houston County Jail on Thursday on a $15,000 bond.
Jerkins said there were at least 10 people inside the SpectraCare group home when the fire started Tuesday evening. He said all were safely evacuated.
Jerkins said the fire spread from the bed to a dresser and to the ceiling before volunteer firefighters contained it. Jerkins said Walton had been at the Searcy Mental Hospital near Mobile before arriving at the group home in Houston County on Tuesday.
