Mobile church deacon pleads to child porn charge

ATHENS — MOBILE, Ala. (AP) — A longtime deacon at a Roman Catholic church in Mobile has pleaded guilty to child pornography charges.

Authorities say Robert Nouwen faces as long as 10 years in prison at his sentencing, which is set for March.

Nouwen was a deacon at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Mobile for years, but he recently retired.

Authorities investigating a Canadian company found the man's name in its list of customers. Nouven told investigators he bought seven films depicting young boys but destroyed all seven after watching them.

Prosecutors say the man bought the DVDs in early 2011.
