MOULTON, Ala. (AP) — Officials in Lawrence County say a couple has been found shot to death in their home, and a businessman has been charged with murder.

Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell says the body of 73-year-old Baily Nichols was found in the home’s kitchen, while 71-year-old Betty Nichols’ body was found in the bathroom.

The sheriff says 61-year-old Charles Auther Moore is charged with two counts of capital murder.

Police say Moore, of Sheffield, either rented or leased the building he used for his business from the couple.

The bodies were found early Sunday afternoon. Mitchell says investigators believe they were shot Sunday morning.
