ORANGE PARK, Fla. (AP) — A slain north Florida girl is being laid to rest after a funeral and private burial.
Funeral services for Somer Thompson are scheduled for Tuesday at the First Baptist Church of Orange Park. After the services, mourners will release thousands of purple balloons into the air.
Somer will be buried at Jacksonville Memory Gardens following a private graveside service for family and friends.
Meanwhile, police have received about 1,500 leads, but have not named a suspect or person of interest.
The 7-year-old girl disappeared last week as she was walking home from school. Her body was discovered two days later in a landfill in southern Georgia. Police say she was slain, but have refused to release a cause of death.
