Matsos family sells most Golden Rule restaurants

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Most of the restaurants in the Golden Rule Bar-B-Q chain have been sold, along with the Golden Rule name, to a Florida businessman.

Under a deal completed this week, Golden Rule CEO Charles Matsos stay on as a consultant for two years. He and his father, Michael, will be franchise owners of four Golden Rule locations, including the original Irondale restaurant.

Jeff Miller, who controls a family business that has 144 Lee’s and 110 Mrs. Winner’s chicken restaurants in 16 states, is the buyer.

Miller gets the rights to the Golden Rule name and ownership of 15 restaurants in the deal.

The Matsos family retains ownership of Golden Rule restaurants in Irondale, Calera, Sylacauga and Madison.

Charles Matsos says the sale caps an 18-month search for a buyer.
