Georgia man sentenced in fatal Alabama carjacking

SELMA, Ala. (AP) — A Georgia man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole for a fatal carjacking at a Selma car wash.

Circuit Judge Tommy Jones followed the recommendation of a jury that convicted Quante Rice of capital murder in September.

District Attorney Michael Jackson said Thursday that Rice shot Morris Hatcher in the head at the car wash in October 2004, and then stole his Chevrolet Tahoe. Police arrested the 25-year-old defendant after the Tahoe was found abandoned in College Park, Ga., where he lived.

The district attorney’s office had sought the death penalty in the case.
